The goal for this 1880’s farmhouse renovation was to modernize the home while preserving some of its original charm. Working alongside Studio LBD Interiors and our trusted network of subtrades, we transformed this 18th century home into a beautifully restored, fully modernized space that honours its history while meeting today’s standards of comfort, safety and functionality.

Behind the walls of this old farmhouse, we found knob and tube wiring, horsehair plaster and structural irregularities. By updating all the electrical, replacing the old plaster with new drywall and adding concrete footings in the basement, we ensured the renovation would not only look great, but also met Ontario building codes. The plumbing and HVAC were also updated and rerouted to gain efficiency and work within the new layout. Load bearing walls were removed on the main floor, allowing us to create a functional, open-concept space that flows optimally for cooking and hosting.

The space features custom cabinetry in crisp white and warm walnut, paired with panel-ready built-in kitchen appliances. Black-framed windows add contrast and complement the black hardware throughout, while original details including the stained-glass window and staircase woodwork were preserved to balance modern updates with the home’s historic character.

The result is a thoughtfully renovated farmhouse that feels modern but still connected to its past. By combining modern systems, an improved layout, and carefully preserved character details, the home now offers a warm and practical space designed for everyday living and effortless entertaining.
